Week 7 - Summer Love

Dear Spoon Full Family,

It's really summer. Really, really summer. Out here in Central Washington, there shall be no more rain for a long time: only the sun reigns, now. And all green things under the sun are growing like mad, growing like young love, as long as they get water.

Witness the juicy tomatoes swelling orange-red. Heft the cucumbers hanging heavy from their prickly vines. Marvel as zucchinis and other summer squashes inflate like water balloons, exuberant to be grilled, roasted, or souped up in your kitchen!

Take a break to refill your water bottle and drink long. Pull your sun hat down low over your eyes. Jump in the cold river to reawaken your skin cells!

Last weekend, a number of you CSA members came to visit us here at the farm. Saturday was quite windy, while Sunday was stalk still and hot, hot. On both days, we had a blast, because you all are wonderful. Of course, a beyond-organic produce delivery service selects for a clientele that has smart, compassionate values. But on top of that, each one of you whom we have met exhibit a humor, curiosity, and gratitude that truly inspires us. To labor under a long sunny summer afternoon feels infinitely more satisfying and fulfilling when we know the people for whom we work (you!) truly deserve and appreciate life's best simple pleasures.

Thank you for being you. Here's this week's produce list (Bold items are in whole boxes only):

  • Cucumbers
  • Beets
  • Salad Mix
  • Mini Romaines
  • Carrots
  • Summer Squash
  • Tomatoes
  • Cabbage

And here are some relevant original recipes:

May the long-time sun shine upon you, and all love surround you.
