Week 18 - Gather Around

Dear Spoon Full Farm Family,

This is the time of year when we almost look like gatherers, rather than farmers. Hunter-gatherers, theoretically, spent almost all of their time doing what we call ‘harvesting,’ not having to worry about planting, weeding, pruning, etc., etc. The key word in comparing us, this week, to hunter-gatherers, is ‘almost.’ That’s because while we harvest (and harvest, and harvest, and harvest), we are also still planting crops, and cover crops, and winter greens, and tidying things up, and rolling up some drip irrigation lines, and making huge compost piles, and…

Okay. We’re not hunter-gatherers. We are farmers, and the season continues (for six more weeks, after this!).

Still, we want to gather. The harvest dinner was a wonderful get-together with 30 folks, most of them CSA members - and the connections we made and witnessed there inspired us. Let’s gather together, again.

With that idea in mind, join us on the evening of Thursday, October 4th for a Spoon Full CSA potluck dinner at glassybaby madrona. 7 PM. We’ll serve burgers with Spoon Full Farm beef (amazing) and wine. You just bring something delicious prepared from this week’s CSA box!
